25,000th Passenger Carried by Gold Line

SPOKANE—Gold Line, a joint-sponsored scheduled bus service in northeastern Washington State, recently carried its 25,000th passenger. Since its inception in September 2010, Gold Line has operated two daily round trips between Kettle Falls and Spokane, serving communities that have historically dealt with limited transportation options.

"We are pleased to offer this public transit service to communities in northeastern Washington, many of which have had no intercity bus service for decades," said WA State Dept. of Transportation (WSDOT) Intercity Program Manager Steve Abernathy. "With the Gold Line, we are continuing to reach across the state into areas that need service."

Gold Line is an integral part of the Travel Washington Intercity Bus Program, which includes similar transit services around the state: Grape Line, Apple Line and Dungeness Line. The program uses Federal Transit Administration funds and local matching funds from Greyhound Bus Lines to develop rural intercity bus routes.

Gold Line—named to commemorate the area's rich gold mining past—makes 12 stops on each trip, including Spokane International Airport, STA Plaza and Spokane Intermodal in Downtown Spokane, North Spokane Park & Ride, Deer Park, Loon Lake, Chewelah Casino, Chewelah, Addy, Arden, Colville, and Kettle Falls.
